5 Easy Ways to Measure the Strength (or Weakness) of Your Immune System pt. 2
Immunity Challenge Day 5
By Dr. Jade Teta
Hey what’s up, it’s Dr. Jade Teta here.
In part 1 of this lecture, I gave you a crash course in the “language” of metabolism.
Remember, your metabolic strength and flexibility is a window into the strength of your immune system. That’s because your metabolism provides the energy to FUEL your immune system, so it can fight infectious microbes effectively.
Thankfully, measuring your metabolic strength is easy once you know what to listen for.
Your metabolism is talking to you all the time. It uses a “language” called biofeedback to do that.
Biofeedback is a SENSATION in either your body or mind. And there are 5 major biofeedback signals we want to focus on. They’re represented by the goofy little acronym SHMEC. That’s:
· Sleep
· Hunger
· Mood
· Energy
· Cravings
When you experience one of these SHMEC sensations, you know your metabolism is talking to you. It’s responding positively or negatively to something in your environment… like what you ate for lunch or how stressed out you are. And it’s updating you on the IMPACT that has on your body.
Fascinating, right?
The ultimate goal is to have “SHMEC in check.” That means…
· Sleep – It’s easy to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up refreshed…
· Hunger – The intensity of hunger is appropriate and controllable…
· Mood – Mood is consistent and generally optimistic…
· Energy – Energy is stable and high…
· Cravings – The brain feels satisfied with healthy eating style.
When SHMEC is in check, we know the metabolism is producing consistent energy and it’s resilient. That’s exactly where you want to be.
Before we talk about HOW to get SHMEC in check, you first need to know how to objectively measure your SHMEC.
That’s what we’ll go over in today’s video lecture.
