It’s National Hamburger Day and what better way to celebrate than with a decadent, fully-loaded burger! This twist on the American classic includes antioxidant-rich red onion and an unbelievably dairy-free mushroom cream sauce that takes your dish to the next level.

Juicy Hamburgers with Caramelized Red Onion and Creamy Mushroom Sauce

Ingredients
Burger Patties
- 1 lb. grass-finished ground beef
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 2 tbsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Mushroom Sauce
- 1 tbsp grass-fed butter, olive oil, or avocado oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups button mushrooms, chopped
- 2 tbsp coconut cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Onion Topping
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp grass-fed butter, olive oil, or avocado oil
Optional Serving Suggestions
- Sliced tomatoes
- Shredded lettuce
- Hamburger buns
- Grass-fed, organic cheese, or dairy-free cheese
Instructions
In a large bowl add the ground beef, chopped parsley, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and mix to combine. Form 4 large patties, using your hands, and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp butter or olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, around 1 minute. Add chopped button mushrooms and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until soft. After 7 minutes, add coconut cream and stir to combine. Let simmer on very low heat until ready to serve.
Meanwhile, in a separate large skillet, add 1 tbsp butter or oil. Add red onion and sauté until translucent and beginning to caramelize, approximately 5 minutes. Remove onions from the pan and place in the oven at the lowest temperature to keep warm.
In the same skillet, add burger patties and cooked to desired doneness. For medium-rare, cook to 130-135F. For medium, cook to 145F. For medium-well, cook to 150-155F. For well done, cook to 160-165F. When cooked to your preference, remove burgers from the skillet and divide between four plates.
Top burgers with warm mushroom sauce, sautéed onions, and any additional toppings of your choice. Enjoy!
